Our Mission to eliminate Silicosis

Silicosis, a preventable yet potentially fatal lung disease caused by inhaling respirable crystalline silica dust, has seen a global resurgence, specifically in industries involving engineered stone fabrication such as Quartz. At Tyson Ford Ltd, we recognize the gravity of this issue and are committed to implementing comprehensive measures to eliminate the risk of silicosis within our operations.

Silicosis occurs when fine silica particles are inhaled, leading to inflammation and scarring of lung tissue. This condition is notably prevalent among workers who cut, grind, or polish materials containing high silica content like Quartz. Recent reports have highlighted a rise in silicosis cases among young workers handling high-silica artificial stone, commonly used in kitchen worktops due to improper factory regulation and negligence of health and safety protocols.

To safeguard our workforce and clients, TYSON FORD has instituted rigorous protocols aimed at minimizing and ultimately eliminating exposure to silica dust:

  1. Wet Cutting Techniques: We employ wet methods during the cutting and fabrication of stone materials. By integrating water into these processes, we significantly reduce the release of respirable silica dust into the air.

  2. Advanced Dust Collection Systems: Our facilities are to be equipped with state-of-the-art local exhaust ventilation systems designed to capture and contain silica dust at its source, preventing it from becoming airborne.

  3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Our employees are to appropriate PPE, including respirators certified for silica dust filtration, to offer an additional layer of protection during operations where dust generation is unavoidable.

  4. Regular Health Assessments: We conduct routine medical assessments for our workers to monitor their respiratory health, ensuring early detection and intervention should any signs of silicosis emerge.

  5. Comprehensive Training Programs: Our staff undergo extensive training on the hazards of silica exposure and the implementation of best practices to mitigate these risks. This includes proper equipment handling, maintenance of dust control systems, and adherence to safety protocols.

  6. Strict Housekeeping Procedures: We maintain rigorous cleaning schedules to manage water slurry and settled dust, preventing accumulation and potential secondary exposure.

Our Design Philosophy: Aniconism

At Tyson Ford, we are committed to a design philosophy called Aniconism. This guiding principle emphasizes the importance of preserving the inherent identity and function of every object rather than nature-mimicking forms, we choose a path rooted in clarity, purpose, and authenticity.

What is Object Purity?

Object Purity is the notion that objects should maintain their true form and function without unnecessary embellishment or distraction. A tap should look like a tap—sleek, functional, and unmistakable in its purpose—not like a dragonfly, an eagle, or any other creature.

Company Policy on Imagery

Our commitment to Object Purity extends beyond product and interior design:

  • No Images of Living Beings: TYSON FORD products, packaging, leaflets, brochures, and catalogues will never feature images of humans, animals, or any living beings. This ensures our focus remains solely on the objects themselves and their pure, functional beauty.

  • No Statues or Idols: We refrain from incorporating statues, idols, or decorative representations of living forms in any of our designs or marketing materials. Our products stand on their own merit, unembellished and true to their purpose.
